Allspeeds recently updated the Webtool softline cutting range to tackle the advances in fibre rope technology. Softlines are becoming more popular as they are gradually replacing steel wire rope in subsea applications. Hydraulic hardline cutters have been available for many years to enable work class ROV’s to cut steel wire rope. In recent years ROV crews have faced a few challenges when cutting softlines, that’s until we developed our SL range of cutters. In September we unveiled our new SL55 cutter and it has quickly become a very popular product. One of the problems we face is sourcing samples for testing as it is very hard to get small lengths of these ropes. Fortunately for us, our friends down at English Braids are on hand to supply us with test samples. English Braids is a UK based privately owned, manufacturer of ropes, cords and Braids. They recently supplied us with 36mm UHMPE (Dyneema) SteelSafe 12 SK75 fibre rope for us to conduct testing in our newly revamped in-house test centre.
